Klangfugl is a brand new experimental duo, that has no fear of almost nothing at all.
The two vocalists/composers, Randi Pontoppidan and Birgitte Lyregaard create a world of sound together that will awaken and seduce the listener.
The voices intertwine so that it becomes difficult to tell when one voice stops and the other begins. They are further colored and processed by the the loop and echo machines of Randi. Filtered and reused in the most sound sensible way by Randi herself.
Birgitte brings her taste for poetry to the feast. Lyrics and little stories – pre-written or invented on the spot emerge from the landscape soundwaves, like ships on a stirred sea.
Soundwise the duo ”Klangfugl” moves between an almost interimistic nothinglike silenceness to the most dense frequence stormlike expression, and everything in between. Flakes of jazz, nordic folklore, classical, african, punkrock etc. can be detected in the pool of inspirations that Klangfugl draws upon. And the listener could suddenly find him/herself on a train station, inside a radio, in a field, on a mountain etc. Noone can know where the journey will end, really. Because every second of the music is open and lead only by the sense of sound in the moment.
Randi and Birgitte share a small chapter of their pasts. They were both students of the Royal Conservatory in the Hague. And had the joy of being taught by the same teacher, Jeanne Lee.
They have been working separately with free vocal improvisation through all sorts of projects and connections – both abroad and in Denmark through the last 20 years and both have a number of recordings behind them. But in ”Klangfugl” they meet artistically for the very first time and have a curious and wonderful experience of coming home.
