To listen to the music of folk noir singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Laura Reznek is to enter a dark wilderness where hopes and shadows grow. Crafted from jazz and folk traditions and contemporary genre blends, Laura’s music is characterized by dusky, ethereal vocals, and the bold instrumentation of downtempo cabaret pop. Her lyrics draw on history, memory, and philosophy, and they sing of a tangled internal world, and the things that keep us up at night—storms and cityscapes, guilt and ghosts.
Born and raised in the blue mountains of Vancouver, Canada, Laura Reznek grew up writing music, and in 2014, she released her debut album, “Who Came Before Us”, produced by Jordan Esau. Shortly afterwards, she set off on a wild tour of North America, the UK, and Europe.
Laura alighted in London in 2015, and spent the last two years there, writing music and learning to tune pianos in a ramshackle piano repair shop in the famous Camden Market. In the spring of this year, she had the honour of touring with Lucy Spraggan, playing violin for her Dear You Tour.
Up Next: Currently based in Vancouver, Laura is preparing the release of a single, “Tall Grass”, as well as a hand-designed lyric book. An EP is set to be released later in the year under her new label, Terrified Swan Records.
