The story of Wecycle Copenhagen goes back to 2008 when we started experimenting with old bike frames, giving them a new life by restoring the frames and the components that could be used in the restoring process.
The idea came from Haukur Thorr when he was at a maternity leave from his studies at the Royal Academy of Architecture in Copenhagen. He got inspired by the abundant of left quality bicycles lying around the streets of Copenhagen. Kristin had been working at a small café in Copenhagen along with her studies to learn Danish and with all the bike loving coffee enjoyers in the city the couple started to develop the idea.
We opened our first store in the centre Copenhagen in 2014 after having designed the concept along with our studies within architecture and economics.
Wecycle is a concept store, a place where you experience and enjoy the relaxing combination of retail and café. A place where you either stop by for a cup of coffee ending up with a takeaway combination, consisting of a bike and a coffee and/or a place where you get your dream bike built while enjoying the many delicious forms of the “Danish hygge”. A place where you can enjoy a high-quality coffee, cakes, sandwiches, soups and snacks. Our selection of organic beer from Nørrebro Bryghus and organic wines from our friend Fabio at Cibi e Vini at Christianshavn, where we live.
We go all in in quality and experience. For our core, the bikes. And for all other components of the concept. Down to the smallest details. WeCycle is for the people who care. People who aim for higher quality and people who believe in the investment of quality instead of the investment of abundant. People who care about and respect mother earth.
We believe that the atmospheric combination of retail and café creates this unique 'down to earth’ vibe that brings people beautifully together over this cup of caring and sharing. Because of this we have a great space for intimate concerts, from where the band and the concertgoers will share a unique music experience among tools, bikes and books in the shop.
So please feel free to contact us, if you feel like you have the music that should be presented in this kind of cozy environment.
